Looks good so far ---- I like your idea. To me, Bruder is a good source of models that could be converted into "something else". I'll keep an eye out for updates.

Greg, Thanks for the offer but I don't have any plans to do anything that will need a tarp any time soon. I usually use aluminum foil or an old worn out handkerchief. After those go through the washer and dryer a few hundred times, all of the fuzzy material is gone and acrylic paint, strong coffee or shoe dye works pretty good if I do it right.

Your truck looks like a 6X6 version of the International Harvester M-1-4/M-2-4 truck that the Navy and Marines used in WWII. Nice!

With the skills you have, why not get a 1:35 scale model of the truck you want to build, and then just buy the 3D printed wheels for it from shapeways. There is a guy that has really nice rims and tires for all the popular US trucks from WWII.

I want a CCKW and have been thinking about doing this. Firing up my casting bench has also crossed my mind too but I really don't have time to do that much these days.

Default Tamiya model

I ordered the Tamiya CCKW through Amazon about 6 weeks ago to get a feel for the structure. It took about a month to come from Japan. I plan on using 1/16 inch metal for a basic frame and doing the rest from plastic since the real trucks used flat metal pieces for most of the parts. Still thinking about the leaf springs since I doubt that I can actually make them work on a 1/16 scale model. The real trucks used separate drive shafts running to each set of real wheels so modified axles from regular RC trucks should work. I am still in the planning stage after thinking about this for two years. I will keep a log on this as I make progress and I will keep an eye on what the pros are doing. jot
